The Melville Volunteer Fire Department regrets to announce the passing of 47-year member and Ex-Assistant Chief Jeff Nirenberg. In addition to having served as both a Line Officer and an Assistant Chief, Jeff was presently the lead Safety Officer for the Melville Volunteer FD.

In 2017 Jeff was awarded the Hose Company 1 Member of the Year award, which added to a long list of accolades Jeff received during his distinguished service to our community.

Outside of Melville, Jeff spent 37 years with Suffolk County Fire Rescue Emergency Services, as a supervisor in the Communications Bureau.

Jeff is the father of Firefighter Josh Nirenberg, an active member of our department.

He will be missed by all.
